If you would like to be involved in church music, there are many opportunities!

Singers for Tableaux and Messiah:
If you would like to sing in a Cathedral event this Christmas, there are two opportunities coming up. Tableaux (December 12) this year is outdoors again, but will involve live singing (caroling shepherds and angels) on the Cathedral grounds. Familiar Christmas hymns, and flexibility of how much each singer wants to do, so if you're interested at any level, please sign up. Messiah (December 19 at 7:30 pm) will be led by a rehearsed choir (Thursday evenings). Soloists will be selected from the choir, so interest in solos are welcome as well. As an indoor event, pandemic risk reduction plans will be a concern for some singers and will need to be clarified.

Ongoing Opportunities:

  • Choral Ensembles: we have a regular church choir that meets throughout the season, as well as a youth choristers program and a number of seasonal or pick-up choirs.
  • Contemporary Music: the Informal Family Service music is led by a song team each Sunday, and whether regular or only occasional, we are always looking for musicians to join the team as a singer or on any instrument, including guitar, keyboard, bass, percussion, ukelele, or anything you want to bring to enliven the music.
  • Instrumental Ensembles: in addition to the Informal Service, we also gather more classically-minded ensembles of orchestra-style instruments for music projects at the Cathedral services.
  • Soloists: at the Cathedral services, we welcome interest from experienced musicians who would like to offer preludes.

To express interest in these and any other ideas about how you might want to be involved in the musical community of the Bryn Athyn Church, please be in touch with the Director of Music.
