When you look out of this world into the universe, would you think of it as being empty or full? With the universe being 99.9999999% empty space by volume, it wouldn’t be difficult to say that the universe is mostly empty.
Well, the matter in this world is not so different. If you’ve ever looked at a hologram, which is a three-dimensional image presented in a two-dimensional frame, you can actually cut or break the picture in half, and the entire hologram is still visible in each half. The whole is present in each part, and each part is a picture of the whole. This is what our world is like. Solid matter in this world—and all the atoms that make it up—contains a similar percentage of empty space as the universe out there. The hardest, most dense material in this world is no more than an image of atomic energy pushing back against the touch of our fingers, and our fingers along with our bodies are similarly made up of almost complete space.
Keep that in mind when you are worried about the things of this world where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. Money, your house, your body, are in many ways just holographic illusions or maybe representations of things that actually matter.
It’s easy to get caught up in the mirage of this world, though. We see people suffering in the mirage of this world, and we even experience it ourselves. The TV that we watch and the phones we hold in our hands tell us and remind us again and again how important this world is.
And it’s all just an image—a vessel.
What if we could raise our minds above the apparent material nature of this natural level? Our bodies that are 99.99999999% empty would matter a lot less. The money in our accounts, the houses that we “own,” the objects we possess, and even the politics of this world would start to fade away. Don’t get me wrong, we still have to live IN the world, but we don’t have to be OF the world. By raising our minds above the appearance, we can see what really matters, and that’s the spiritual stuff.
The spiritual stuff is the love we have for each other, the relationships, the mercy, and the care we have for each other as humans. The spiritual stuff is also the true ideas that are found in God’s Word, not the fake-able content we find on social media videos.
What really matters? We should ask ourselves that with all the worldly things we care about.
