For some reason I’ve been thinking a lot about eagles lately. Eagles symbolize our ability to understand higher spiritual things:
“Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young people shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:30-31)
“Eagles have various symbolic meanings, but flying eagles symbolize concepts which lead to understanding, since when they fly, they recognize and see. They also have sharp eyes so as to see keenly, and eyes symbolize the intellect. To fly means, symbolically, to perceive and teach, and in the highest sense, which has the Lord as its subject, it means to foresee and provide.” (AR 244)
“The wings of the eagle symbolize the power to recognize truth and good, and so to acquire for oneself intelligence.” (AR 245)
“The woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time.” (Rev. 12:14)
“Wings symbolize power and protection. An eagle symbolizes intellectual sight and the resulting thought. To fly means, symbolically, to perceive and be watchful.” (AR 561)
“People who have an inner perception about things are in the light of truth, which is the light of heaven…. Internal people are spiritual, because they think with their spirit when it is lifted out of their body, and this is how they are able to see truths in light…. Internal people are like eagles flying high, which can see everything that lies beneath them for miles in every direction…. Internal people realize that what they know compared to what they don't is like the amount of water in a jar compared to the amount of water in a lake.” (TCR 839)
Fly, eagles fly!
