Walking with God

From Rev. Phil Schnarr, Assistant to the Pastor
September 14, 2020

“You have delivered my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living.” Psalm 56:13

“’Walking with God’ is teaching and living according to the doctrine of faith, whereas ‘walking with Jehovah’ is leading a life of love. ‘Walking’ is a customary expression to mean living, as in the phrases walking in the law, walking in statutes, walking in the truth. Strictly speaking, walking has regard to the path of truth, and therefore of faith or the doctrine of faith.” Arcana Caelestia 519

Next Sunday, September 20, the Young Children’s Church team is planning our first live worship service since March. We pray that this will serve the Lord’s desire that we find time to walk with Him in His teachings and in “leading a life of love.”

In a way this feels like learning to walk all over again… by taking baby steps. Our plan is to first have an outdoor service where families can gather on the South lawn of the Cathedral while sitting in individual family units on blankets. The subject of our worship will be from John 15, “I am the vine you are the branches.” Hopefully, we will find that we can all still be connected to each other by picturing the Lord at our center and that by staying connected to Him, we also stay connected to each other.

In-person worship links us more perfectly so our aspiration is that we can return to indoor services with singing and closeness ASAP. I like to think that those who are currently staying connected to church through our video worships are also like the branches being sustained by their Vine and still bearing fruit wherever they are planted.

Who knows how well these first steps will go? Perhaps we will stumble a bit. But as we all know, that’s what happens when little people are learning or relearning to walk.

We would love your help in spreading the Word about Sunday’s outdoor YCC service this Sunday, September 20, at 10:00 am. Bring a blanket or lawn chair!
