Good Friday Vespers – 8pm

Good Friday Vespers – Funeral Sentences
8pm on April 18th, 2014

Bryn Athyn Cathedral

Rev. Erik Buss is joined by the Bryn Athyn Festival Chorus and the Cathedral Choristers for a service of musical reflections on themes of grief, loss, and death.  The centerpiece of the service is a set of introspective funeral sentences composed by Henry Purcell and completed by William Croft.  Along with musical meditations by Byrd, Bach, Tomkins and Carissimi, the music looks to lift our minds heavenward as the sounds of singing are joined by unique 17th-century instruments the theorbo and viola da gamba, played by Richard Stone and Zoe Weiss.

All are welcome to come enjoy the music, the service, and the reflection on the themes of Good Friday.  Preludes begin at 7:40, so come early to enjoy solo chamber organ and theorbo music.
