DESCRIPTION:Topic: “Send Me—Seven Years of Willingness”\nSpeaker: Peter Buss\, Jr.\, Executive Bishop of the General Church\nInvitation from Bishop Buss:\nHello\, Bryn Athyn Church. I get to present to you at the Community Supper about a vision for the General Church that we’re calling “Send Me—Seven Years of Willingness.” Based on the call of Isaiah\, during which he issued the famous response\, “Here I am! Send me\,” (Isaiah 6:8)\, this vision is a way of encapsulating the essence of the New Church faith and what the Lord calls to us to do in response to His new revelation. I’ve had the opportunity to present on this vision around the church on an organizational level and also about how it applies to individuals; this is my opportunity to do that with you. During the presentation\, I hope to personalize this vision by inviting you to outline the next chapter of your book of life\, within which you commit to a specific way of saying to the Lord\, “Here I am\, send me.” This is a subject I’m passionate about. I hope you will come.” \n \nVolunteer Fair\nAfter Bishop Buss’ presentation\, you will have the opportunity to learn about various ways you can volunteer for Bryn Athyn Church. Feel free to walk around and learn about ushering\, acting in Christmas tableaux\, Pay-It-Forward Crew\, and many other uses to get involved. \n\nSchedule for the Evening\n5:30 pm – Doors Open\n6:00 pm – Welcome\, Blessing\, Eating Supper\n6:30 pm – Peter Buss Jr’s Presentation\n7:30 pm – Potluck Dessert & Volunteer Fair \nAll these times are approximate. \nWhat if I just want to come listen to the speaker?\nSitting and talking with other people is a big part of the point of these evenings\, however\, if you’re only able to come for the program this time\, come a little before 6:30 pm and leave whenever you need to. \n\nFood\nSupper – Bring Your Own: For supper\, bring your own food from home or get takeout from a local restaurant. We will NOT be offering any meals at this event. \nPotluck Dessert If you’re able to\, please bring a dessert to share (it doesn’t have to be homemade). We will provide some store-bought desserts. \nAlcohol\nBYOB \n\nRoom Layout\nThere will be long\, rectangular tables\, running from the back of Asplundh Assembly Hall up to the stage. This means that everyone can sit with the people they came with and also be together at the same table with a larger group. \n\nAbout the Speaker\nRt. Rev. Peter Buss\, Jr\nPeter Buss currently serves as Executive Bishop of the General Church and Chancellor of the Academy of the New Church. He has served as pastor of the Glenview New Church and School\, and before that in assistant roles in Glenview and Mitchellville. He considers himself blessed to share life with his wife\, Teresa\, four grown children\, and two grand-children. When not doing church work\, he loves running\, golfing and traveling. (Read a longer Curriculum Vitae for Peter Buss.) \n\nChildcare – No Childcare Provided But Babysitting Subsidy Available\nWe are not providing childcare for this Community Supper. We are happy to contribute $25 towards babysitting costs; please let us know if you would like help with that. \n\n7th Grade and Up Invited\nWe invite people in 7th Grade and up to attend. Teenagers will be expected to stay with their parents for the duration of the evening (not eat quickly and then go outside to hang out with their friends). We don’t want unsupervised teenagers wandering around the property. The point is for teenagers to come and be part of the Community Supper\, from the beginning to the end. We will leave it to parents to determine whether their teenagers would enjoy coming to this event and being part of conversations with adults or not. \n\nRecorded But Not Live-Streamed\nWe will record this event and put an edited version of it on the Bryn Athyn Church YouTube channel\, within a week or two. We will not be live-streaming this event. \n\nRSVP – Not Required\nYou do not have to RSVP to come to the Community Supper. You can decide at the last minute to come\, even if you haven’t told anyone that you were planning to come. \n\nCome\, and Invite Your Friends!\nWe hope that you’ll come to the supper and program\, or just the program. We also hope that you’ll invite your friends.
