SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting: Rise Above It
DESCRIPTION:A 10-month program that will take you deeper into the joy of living the 10 commandments. \nWould you like to improve your life? Your relationships? Are you ready for some breakthroughs? If so\, we’ve got good news for you! \nBryn Athyn Church will be focusing on the Ten Commandments this school year in several of our worship services and special events. A significant part of this focus will be inviting you to join large and small groups to study and practice the Ten Commandments using the book “Rise Above It.” We are thrilled to have the authors Rev. Ray and Star Silverman leading this effort! \nThis program will continue throughout the school year\, meeting once monthly\, with all the small groups together. Ray and Star will present the information and lead us through the activities\, while participants sit with their group for discussion and to complete the tasks. Small groups can be a rotating collection of people\, or you can sign up with a specific leader or with your ready-made group of eight. Groups have the option to meet with just themselves partway through the month for discussion\, inspiration\, and community building. \nHere is a little more information about Rev. Ray and Star Silverman’s book: \nIf you want to enter into life – a joyful\, peaceful\, vibrant\, and deeply spiritual life – the path is simple: believe in God and keep the commandments. Sometimes\, however\, this is easier said than done. \nThis book explores each of the Ten Commandments and demonstrates how we can apply them in our daily lives. Drawing from different sacred texts\, including the Writings of Emanuel Swedenborg\, this book shows how\, by living a life according to the commandments\, we can be happier here on earth and continue into the next life. \nFilled with candid and inspiring journal entries from seminar participants\, and enriched by the teachings of the great religions\, this book invites you to enter into a life of ever-increasing love\, wisdom\, and service. \nVisit www.brynathynchurch.org/riseaboveit to learn more about the program.

SUMMARY:Church Canceled This Sunday Due to Snow | Watch Online
DESCRIPTION:There will be no in-person worship services this Sunday\, January 25th\, due to the amount and exact timing of the snow and sleet that is currently forecast. We cannot ensure people’s safety\, and so we cannot offer an in-person worship service. \nWe were scheduled to have a Community Worship Service this Sunday. We have rescheduled that for February 22nd (when we’re sure the weather will be beautiful). This Sunday\, we will live stream a recording of an old Community Worship Service from January 2023. Details below. \n\nWorship at Home This Sunday\nWe encourage you to have worship at home this Sunday — snuggle up on the couch and watch the recording at 10 am; or light a few candles and have family worship; or (if you’re on your own this Sunday) call up a friend to have a conversation about a religious topic; or join the Zoom discussion at 11:30 am; or find another way to remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. \n\nThe Recorded Service from January 2023\nPreacher & Topic: “The Future” (Rev. Derek Elphick)\nIn our first service in September 2022\, the theme of the day was how the Lord gathers His flock\, and we considered some of the reasons why we\, as a church community\, might feel scattered and lost. In our second service in October we talked about re-building that which was lost and what that might look like in our own lives and collectively as a community. This service concludes this opening three-part series by considering the future. What are the Lord’s plans for us as individuals and collectively as a church community? What role do we have in laying the foundation for a future that doesn’t repeat the mistakes of the past? \nMusic\nPreludes start at 9:40 am. The cathedral choir sings “Total Praise” as the last prelude before the service starts. Grayson Zuber\, our cathedral stonemason\, is the featured musician for this service\, playing classical guitar. \nLive Stream\nWatch this Sunday’s service here: Community Worship Live Stream. You can watch the service live on Sunday (preludes at 9:40 am)\, or you can watch the recording any time after that.   \nWorship Program\nDownload the worship program with quotes from the Word and discussion questions. \nZoom Discussion at 11:30 am\nYou’re invited to participate in an online small-group discussion of this Sunday’s Community Worship Service on Zoom. This discussion is hosted by the group that regularly meets on Sundays to discuss the Informal Family Service. Feel free to join this meeting at any time between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm on Sunday. All are welcome. Join the meeting here.

It’s titled A Human Business: The People-First Model for Lasting Success. Here’s part of the description of the book: \nFor too long\, business leaders have operated under the assumption that maximizing profit requires minimizing humanity. The result is widespread employee disengagement\, toxic workplace cultures\, and organizations that drain rather than energize their people. \nA Human Business challenges this paradigm with a proven alternative. Drawing from forty years building SnapCab from a small cabinet shop to an international manufacturing company\, Glenn Bostock demonstrates how modeling your organization after the human body creates communities where people thrive. \nHere are some of the advanced reviews: \n“Great students make great leaders. People who are perpetually in studious observation will always stop the people around them with insights others have missed. In Glenn’s new book\, A Human Business\, page after page\, you will find yourself saying\, ‘I didn’t see that!’ I know firsthand the incredible company that Glenn and his team have created\, and it is the essence of Humans in Flow.”\n― Paul Akers\, Author\, 2 Second Lean \n“Glenn Bostock’s A Human Business is a powerful reminder that companies thrive when people do. His vision of work as a community of purpose and usefulness offers an inspiring blueprint for building organizations that honours both human dignity and business success.”\n― Hon. Mark Gerretsen\, Member of Parliament\, Kingston and the Islands \n“In an age of AI―when what we crave most is real humanity―Glenn Bostock’s Human Business model reminds us of what so many corporations have lost: the simple power of caring\, connection\, and purpose. This book shows that being truly human isn’t just idealistic; it’s essential for creating workplaces where people can genuinely thrive.”\n― Susie Ogihara\, Strategic Project Manager\, Panasonic R&D Company of North America \n“Glenn Bostock possesses a rare quality of leadership: the ability to transform adversity into opportunity with genuine conviction. In A Human Business\, he shows readers how challenges serve as powerful invitations for innovation\, growth\, and the opportunity to create solutions. Glenn has proven these principles\, not only on these pages\, but through his own distinguished career.”\n― Peter Rhodes\, Author\, Observing Spirit \nRead more and preorder the book here. \n\nCome\, and Invite Your Friends!\nWe hope that you’ll come — to just the program\, if not to the dinner and the program. We also hope that you’ll invite your friends. \nRemember to buy your tickets by Tuesday\, January 27th (if you’re coming for the dinner). If you’re just coming for the program\, just show up a little before 7:00 p.m. on January 30th.
