SUMMARY:Community Worship: "A Lamp to My Feet"
DESCRIPTION:You are warmly invited to the Community Worship Service this Sunday\, September 20th\, at the Cathedral. The service will begin at 10:00 am. \nBelow you can find details about how Community Worship Services work and also information about unique and fun things for this Sunday’s service. Jump to Online Participation. \n\nHow Community Worship Services Work\n\nThere’s just one service.\nThe service starts at 10:00 am. We recommend coming 15-20 minutes early to have plenty of time to find parking and a seat.\nAfter the opening part of the service the children and their families are invited to come and sit up in the front for a Children’s Talk.\nAfter that\, the children are invited to go to different areas based on their age group.\nIf your child is 5 or older\, you can leave them in the Council Chamber and rejoin the service for the adult portion. You can drop them off or they can go on their own but please ask your children to wait for you to collect them at the end of the service.\nIf your child is younger than 5\, they can participate in the activities if you (or another responsible family member) stay with them.\nAfter the service\, please collect your children from the Council Chamber or Undercroft and join us for refreshments in the Social Hall\, or outside in the cloister.\n\n\nThis Sunday’s Service\nTopic & Preacher: “A Lamp to My Feet” (Rev. Steven Gunther)\nWe often wish the Lord would show us exactly where our lives are going. But what do we do when the path ahead is uncertain\, when the Word doesn’t seem to give us a simple answer\, or when we worry that we’ve already wandered in the wrong direction? Join us for Community Worship as we explore the Lord’s promise that His Word can be “a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” \nMusic\nThis Sunday’s music features the Cathedral Choir. The last prelude and the first postlude will be pieces on the theme of the Lord’s Word as a lamp or lantern. Come early if you want to hear all of the beautiful preludes. Doors open and music begins at 9:40. \nThe interlude will be “Seconds of Eternity\,” a piece by Swedish composer Tommie Haglund. Haglund\, who takes inspiration from Swedenborg in some of his work\, was recently profiled by Bryn Athyn College professor\, Aram Yardumian in his book Listening to Eternity: The Music\, Spirituality\, and Creative World of Composer Tommie Haglund. You can read a review of Aram’s book by our music director\, Dr. Graham Bier\, here: “Seeking Reality Through Sound.” \nWant to Bring Refreshments?\nWe would love it if you’re able to bring some refreshments this Sunday. It’s definitely the more the merrier. Please bring finger food that is totally ready-to-go—that is\, no additional preparation or plating needed. Please drop it off on the table in the social hall as you arrive. If you bring refreshments on non-disposable dishes\, please remember to take those with you when you leave. Thanks! \n\nOnline Participation\nPlease Note: The player below will always show information about the next Family Service. To find other recordings\, visit the Family Service Archive or the All Recent Services archive. \n\n \n\n\nZoom Discussion\nPlease join us on Zoom for an online small-group discussion of this Sunday’s Community Worship Service. This discussion is hosted by the team that regularly meets on Sundays to discuss the Informal Family Service. Feel free to join this meeting at any time between 11:30 and 12:30 on Sunday. All are welcome.\nJoin the meeting. \n \n\nLearn more about our Community Worship Service or view our other service offerings.
